Svend Yort - First Chair of NAPEX

Svend Yort, 1901-1981, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and moved to the United States with his parents when he was a child.  Mr. Yort was a lifelong collector of Scandinavian stamps and postal history.  He joined the Scandinavian Collectors Club in 1944 and later served as the Club’s president 1967-1970. 

Mr. Yort served as the Chair of the first NAPEX held in 1950 and the second NAPEX held in 1964.  He then went on to serve as the Chair of the Sixth International Philatelic Exhibition (SIPEX) held in Washington, DC. In 1966.

For his contributions to philately, Mr. Yort was inducted into the American Philatelic Society Hall of Fame in 1982.
